Ron Arias has been a Contracts Professional for over 30 years. Ron began his career in contracting with Rockwell International Corporation. After three years working B1 and non-B1 Bomber Programs, he accepted a position with Hughes Aircraft Company. Once at Hughes, Ron progressed through the various Contracts Management functions for the former Radar Systems Group (RSG) supporting such programs as the F/A 18 Radar Upgrade and Production Programs and GBU-15 Weapon Data Link and Missile Telemetry system programs. Here he gained experience working US Military and Commercial Programs with values ranging from $1M to $300M. During this time, Ron also participated in the RSG Business Development Program gaining hands on experience working assignments in Business Development, Finance and Material organizations. Upon completion, Ron was temporarily assigned as the Contracts Director for CALSTART, Inc., a nonprofit consortium of public and private entities to promote advanced transportation technologies. In this role, he provided counsel and guidance relating to the negotiation of collaborative agreements and contracts and grant administration with such organizations as the Federal Transit Authority, California Energy Commission and Southern California Edison. Following this assignment, Ron joined Hughes Power Control Systems (HCPS), administering commercial contracts and grants for electric vehicle programs. Ron managed the General Motors Impact Electric Vehicle Program as well as led the negotiations of business thrusts into the automotive commercial marketplace., After several years. Ron accepted an assignment as the Contracts Manager for the F-22 Central Integrated Processor Program. Following this assignment, Ron transferred to Hughes Communications Products. He helped grow the Digital Receiver and Millimeter Wave Point to Point Radio Product lines into new commercial and international markets. Sales grew from $10M to over $80M in a three-year period.
After the merger between Raytheon and Hughes in 1998, Ron moved to Goleta, CA accepting the position as Senior Manager, Contracts of Raytheon Vision Systems (RVS). He successfully managed the transitioned of the former Santa Barbara Research Center, Amber Engineering, Mahwah Company and Texas Instruments (Detector) Contract organizations into a single Contracts organization. He was also responsible for all Contracts Operations. Duties included direction of contract staff activities, participation in front-end strategic assessment of business pursuits, proposal preparation, contract negotiation, contract administration, and customer contact activities to provide for proper contract acquisition and fulfillment. His Contracts Business areas of responsibility included RVS (Goleta, CA), ELCAN Optical Technologies (Midland, Canada and Richardson, TX), Malaga Operations (Malaga, Spain) JPS Communications (Raleigh, NC), Commercial Infrared Operations (Dallas, TX), Raytheon Precision Manufacturing (Dallas, TX) and BBN Technologies (Cambridge, MA).
As a special assignment, Ron agreed to lead a major claim negotiation with the Brazilian Air Force as the Executive Director of Contracts on the System for Vigilance over the Amazon (SIVAM) Program. Ron's team successfully negotiated a win-win resolution with the Government of Brazil as well as a claim by a major supplier. Following successful completion of this two and half year assignment, Ron returned to RVS until his retirement. Ron was also recognized for Performance Development Excellence on several occasions. This award was presented based on employee input in recognition of demonstrated commitment to employees by conducting high-quality and meaningful performance discussions.
A native of Los Angeles, California, Ron was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Whittier College and received his Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from California State University, Long Beach. He is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Executive Management Program and is also a certified Six Sigma Specialist. Ron also has held an SCI clearance.
Ron and his wife Aggie have three children, Natalie, Ronnie and Tommie.
